1. How do I access vLab on a desktop computer?

1. Go to the website receiver.citrix.com.  

2. Download and install the newest version of Citrix Receiver for your operating system (i.e., Win7, Win 8).

3. In Internet Explorer, go to vlab.ws.edu.

4. At the screen below type in your WSCC or STUDENT credentials using the format:

STUDENT\Username or WSCC\Username

5. On the next screen click on the desktop you wish to access.

2. My login failed and I get the “Cannot complete your request” message over and over; what do I do?

This will happen if you don’t place student\ or wscc\ in front of your username. Exit your browser and try again.

3. Why can’t I see my desktop after I have clicked on a desktop?

If you don’t see your desktop, it may be minimized at the bottom of your screen.

Click the button that looks like a Window icon in a circle in your taskbar. That should bring your desktop to where you can see it.

4. How do I access the environment from an iPad?

1. Install Citrix Receiver for iPad from the Apple App Store.

2. In Safari, browse to vlab.ws.edu.

3. At the screen below type in your WSCC or STUDENT credentials using the format:

6. When you see the screen below click on Open in “Receiver”.

5. How do I Sign-Out of the desktop?

The recommended way is to click on the “Start Menu”, click on you name and click “Sign Out”.

If you close the desktop window without signing out then your session will still be open and will log itself out after a while, however, your session can sometimes freeze up.

6. Why can’t I install applications or browsers?

This is normal. The desktops we are testing are designed to maximize reliability and stability in performing daily tasks.

Details are still being worked out on how to deal with special software needs but we are still in our early stages of testing and development.

7. Where do I save my documents and how do I print?

Your login scripts should run as normal so you can still use your m: drive and print to your department’s/lab printers.

You can also have access to your local computer’s drives while in the environment. That way you can always have access to your data.

8. Where do I save my files while working inside the test environment?

Please store all your documents on your M: drive or students on a flash drive. That’s the best way to make sure your data is safe.

Any data placed on the C: drive will DISAPPEAR when you log off.

9. When I try to access the drives on my local computer I get the following error:

The first time you sign in in to the environment it will ask the first time you try to access your local drives whether or not access to your local drives is allowed. Saying no will cause this issue.

1. Go to your Citrix Ribbon and go to Preferences.

2. You can change your File Access settings to whatever access you desire.

10. The first time I login a Citrix Receiver window pops up in in my desktop wanting server information. What do I enter?

Just close the window without entering in anything. This will happen the first time you log in to the environment and should not happen again.

11. (Faculty & Staff Desktops) When I open iTunes for the first time it runs through an Installer and gives an error about Bonjour, what should I do?

This is normal the first time you log-in to the environment. iTunes is creating personalized settings for you and is letting you know that the Bonjour service will not be available. This should not occur again.

12. (Faculty & Staff Desktops) The first time I open Respondus/Studymate I am asked for the licensing information.

The license information it is asking for is located at the URL below, once you have entered it once for both products and you should not be asked for it again.

13. Why does my vLab show a date/time that is not correct?

This occurs because the vLab environment syncs its time with the the computer that connects to it.

Please check your computer’s time and time zone to ensure that your vLab is showing the correct time.

14. Can I use multiple monitors with vLab?

Yes you can. Click and drag the vLab window so that it sets with half of it on one monitor and the other half on the other monitor. After that click to Maximize the window and it will expand to fill both monitors.
